An orca whale visits Ceredigion

locationJust when we thought the wildlife couldn’t get much better in the area surrounding our Barkers Leisure Holiday Parks, conservation charity Sea Trust has documented three sightings of an orca whale off the Ceredigion coast.

Normally the mammals are spotted off the coast of Pembrokeshire, making these sightings near Mwnt even more exciting. Sea Trust believes the whale will have been hunting salmon and sea trout near the Teifi estuary and urges anyone who spotted it to get in touch.

Cliff Benson, of Sea Trust, has said it is possible that the whale was a well-known large male orca, known as John Coe, recognisable by the chunk missing from his fin. He has previously been seen off the Pembrokeshire coast and in Scottish waters, travelling through the Irish Sea in summer months.

Although the weather hasn’t been particularly good to go and catch a glimpse of him, hopefully it won’t be too long before we see him again!
